In 2026 three national rent aids run side by side in Spain, and you can only receive one of them. The Bono Alquiler Joven under Royal Decree 42/2022 pays €250 a month for two years to tenants aged up to 35 with a regular source of income and household income of up to 3 times the IPREM (€25,200 a year), on a rent of up to €600, or €900 in regions that agreed a higher cap with the Ministry. The State Housing Plan 2026-2030, in force since 24 April 2026, adds a youth aid of up to €300 a month, capped at 60% of the rent, for own income up to 5 times the IPREM and rents up to €1,000, plus a general aid of €250 for tenants of any age. None of them applies in the Basque Country or Navarre, which run their own schemes. Each region opens its own call, with its own dates and official gazette: the calculator shows which aid fits you, how much you would get and whether the window is open today.

Three rules settle almost every case
The first is age. The Bono and the Plan youth aid require you to be 35 at most, including the whole of that year, on the day you apply. Turning older afterwards does not cost you an aid already granted. The Plan general aid has no age limit at all.
The second is the rent. Each aid has its own cap and one euro over is enough to fall out: €600 for the Bono (€300 for a room), except in regions the Ministry allowed to raise it to €900; €1,000 for the youth aid, or €500 in towns of 10,000 people or fewer. Parking and storage do not count, under article 8 of Royal Decree 42/2022.
The third is income, measured in multiples of the IPREM. Check your figure here before going further:
Your income in IPREM multiples
Your income in IPREM multiples
2.5 ×
| Monthly IPREM | €600 |
| Yearly IPREM, 12 payments | €7,200 |
| Yearly IPREM, 14 payments | €8,400 |
If you miss the Bono by a few euros, look at the 2026-2030 Plan youth aid: it counts only your income, allows a rent almost twice as high and asks for no minimum work record. And if you are past 35, the general aid is still open to you.

How the aids work, step by step
What the IPREM is and why the 14-payment figure is used
The IPREM is the yardstick Spanish authorities use to measure income for benefits. In 2026 it is still €600 a month because the 2023 Budget, which set it in its 90th additional provision, remains rolled over. Housing aid multiplies it by 14 payments: €8,400 a year. So 3 times the IPREM is €25,200 and 5 times is €42,000.
The figure compared is the one in your latest income tax return whose filing deadline has passed. If you are self-employed, the Bono takes your net business income before the reductions in article 32 of the Income Tax Act. The IPREM calculator does the division and checks it against each aid.
Where and when to apply
Neither the Ministry nor this site takes applications: each region publishes its call in its official gazette and handles it on its e-government site. The royal decrees ask for calls that stay open continuously, but in practice many regions open a window of a few weeks and close it when the money runs out. The calls calendar brings together the dates for all 19 regions and autonomous cities, with a link to each gazette.
Get the paperwork ready first: DNI or NIE, lease, padrón certificate, employment record and bank account. The document checklist adapts to your situation.
What happens if you move or your income changes
If you move within the same region, or to another province, you must report it within 15 days of signing the new lease, and you keep the Bono if the new flat meets the rules. If you move to another region, the destination region may keep paying the Bono until the 24 months are complete; the rent can then reach €900 and income 4 times the IPREM (article 6.3).
Any change in your income or lease must be reported straight away. If you stop qualifying, the region stops the aid from that date and may claim back anything overpaid.
Why the Basque Country and Navarre are separate
Article 2 of Royal Decree 42/2022 and article 1.5 of Royal Decree 326/2026 exclude the two foral regions, which fund their housing policy through their own tax system. The national Bono Alquiler Joven does not exist there, but both run regional youth rent schemes with their own rules. Their pages, Basque Country and Navarre, explain what is on offer and where to apply.
And in your income tax return
The aid you receive is taxed as a capital gain in the general tax base, in the year you receive it and with no withholding, according to the Spanish Tax Agency manual. If it exceeds €1,000 in the year, you must file a return even on a low income. The tax page works it out. Separately, Royal Decree-law 29/2026 created a national 10% rent deduction for low taxable incomes, still awaiting validation.
Common questions
Is anything I type into the calculator sent or stored?
No. Every calculation runs in your browser with the rules published in the Spanish Official Gazette, which ship inside the page itself. There is no account, no form and no database, and no figure you enter travels to a server. If you copy the share link, the values sit in the address and only whoever opens it sees them.
Can I get the Bono Alquiler Joven and the 2026-2030 youth aid at the same time?
No. Article 10 of Royal Decree 42/2022 and article 136 of Royal Decree 326/2026 rule out two aids for the same rent. The calculator compares both and shows you the higher one. The exception is aid for victims of gender violence, people facing eviction or others your region treats as especially vulnerable.
Does the Bono Alquiler Joven still exist in 2026?
Royal Decree 42/2022 is still in force: the 2026-2030 Plan did not repeal it. What changes each year is the money, which the State shares out among the regions at the Housing Sector Conference, and the call each region opens with it. That is why some regions have an open window and others do not: your region's page shows its status.
Which income counts towards the IPREM limit?
For the Bono, the income of everyone registered at the address, unless you rent a room, in which case only yours counts. For the Plan youth aid only your own income ever counts. The region checks your income tax return and divides it by the 14-payment IPREM, €8,400 a year in 2026.
Can I apply before I have signed a lease?
Yes. All three aids accept applicants who are about to sign. The award is then conditional: you must sign the lease within two months of being notified and provide your padrón registration within the deadline in the rules, three months for the Bono and two for the 2026-2030 Plan.
Can a foreign national apply for these aids?
Yes. The Bono requires Spanish, EU, EEA or Swiss nationality, or lawful stay or residence in Spain for other nationals. The 2026-2030 Plan sets no nationality rule in its articles, but each regional call may require legal residence. In both cases you must be registered on the padrón at the rented address.
Does this site file the application or charge for help?
No. It is an independent site that publishes free calculators; it is not a public body, files no applications and asks for no personal data. You apply on your region's e-government site or at its housing offices, which alone award the aid. Each region page links to its official gazette.
