In 2026 the State funds four rent aids in Spain, paid out by the regions. The general aid of the State Housing Plan 2026-2030 is open to any adult whose household earns up to 5 times the IPREM, 42,000 euros a year, or up to 5.5 and 6 times for large or single-parent families and people with disabilities; it pays up to 250 euros a month, 150 for a room, and the region may raise it to 40% of the rent if you have dependants. The aid for especially vulnerable people can cover up to 100% of the rent, with a maximum of 1,000 euros, plus 300 euros for running costs. People aged up to 35 also have the Plan youth aid and the Bono Alquiler Joven. None can be added to another for the same rent, and all are claimed through your region's call, which sets the dates and may add conditions.
The general aid, step by step
Article 116 of Royal Decree 326/2026 requires a lease or assignment contract in your name, or one about to be signed; the flat to be your main home, proven by padrón registration; the income of everyone registered there to stay under the limit; and a rent of no more than €1,000, or €600 for a room. For a room only your income counts.
The amount is at most €250 a month, €150 for a room. For households with dependants or a disability, the region can go up to 40% of the rent. It lasts 24 months and the region may extend it by 24, as long as you still qualify. If you move within the region you must report it within 30 days.

Limits your region can change
The royal decree leaves room for each call. The region can raise the rent cap if it backs it with price studies and signs an agreement with the Ministry; for large, single-parent or disability households it can go up to €1,600 without that agreement (article 117.2.a). It can set a minimum income. And it decides whether the call stays open permanently or by windows, or whether it awards the aid directly (article 121). That is why the same family may qualify in one region and not in the next.
Especially vulnerable people
Section 2 of the same chapter, articles 124 to 131, creates an aid designed for urgent housing. It can pay up to €1,000 a month and up to 100% of the rent, plus €300 a month for building fees, insurance and utilities, for up to 5 years. It requires a mandatory social services report. Unlike the others, this aid can be combined with other aid for the same purpose.
Where each region stands
The 2026-2030 Plan came into force on 24 April 2026, but each region must sign its agreement with the Ministry and publish its call. At our last reading, 2 of the 19 regions and autonomous cities had a national call open. The calls calendar has the detail and the 2026-2030 State Plan page explains every line of the plan.
