The Bono Alquiler Joven is granted for 24 consecutive months, but it is almost never paid month by month from the start. The royal decree asks for periodic payment, monthly where possible, yet each region takes weeks or months to decide on applications, and when it does it usually pays the back months in one go. From then on it pays at its own pace: monthly, quarterly or every six months. The first month covered is set by the award decision under the call, usually the month you applied or the lease start if later. This matters for two reasons: to know until when you will be paid, and because the aid is taxed in the return for the year you receive it, so a late payment can bundle two years' worth into one. While you receive it, you must prove rent payments at least every 6 months.
From the month granted to the month paid
Article 12 of Royal Decree 42/2022 grants the Bono for 24 months, and article 15 asks for periodic payment, monthly where possible. In practice there are two separate dates: the first month covered, set by the decision, and the first payment, which arrives when the region decides. If you are covered from March 2026, the last month will be February 2028, even if the money starts arriving in the autumn.
| Year | Received (Bono from March 2026) |
|---|---|
| 2026 | €2,500 |
| 2027 | €3,000 |
| 2028 | €500 |
Back payments and your tax return
According to the Tax Agency income tax manual, rent aid is a capital gain declared in the year it is received. If your region is slow and pays the 2026 months in January 2027, it all falls into the 2027 return. That can take you over the €1,000 that makes filing compulsory. The tax page works it out.

Proving payments to keep receiving it
Keep in mind that the schedule above assumes no delays. In real life the first months often arrive together, months after the decision, and later payments may come every quarter or every six months depending on the region. Plan your budget as if the aid arrived late: pay the full rent from your own pocket for the first months and treat the back payment as savings when it lands.
Article 16 requires proof of rent payment at least every 6 months and, at the end, within 3 months of the last month covered. If you move, give notice within 15 days: if the new lease qualifies and there is no gap between the two, the schedule stays the same.
And the 2026-2030 Plan aids
The Plan youth and general aids last 24 months, extendable by 24 more if the region allows it and you still qualify. Their payment rhythm is set by each call. When your region opens them, you will see it in the calls calendar.
