The national rent aids in Spain neither pay the same nor work the same way. The Bono Alquiler Joven pays a flat 250 euros a month, lowered only if your rent is below that figure, and requires a rent of 600 euros at most, or 900 where the region raised it. The 2026-2030 Plan youth aid pays 60% of the rent up to 300 euros, 200 for a room, and accepts rents up to 1,000 euros. The general aid pays up to 250 euros, 150 for a room, and the region may raise it to 40% of the rent if you have dependants or a disability. On a low rent the Bono usually wins; at 500 euros or more, the youth aid does. All three last two years, the Plan ones extendable by two more, and you only receive one.
Three different formulas
The Bono Alquiler Joven is a fixed figure: €250 a month, never more than the rent. The 2026-2030 Plan youth aid is a percentage with a ceiling: 60% of the rent and at most €300. The general aid is a figure that can be raised: €250, which the region may lift to 40% of the rent with dependants or a disability. So the best aid depends on what you pay.
| Rent | Bono | Youth aid | General aid |
|---|---|---|---|
| €300 | €250 | €180 | €250 |
| €400 | €250 | €240 | €250 |
| €500 | €250 | €300 | €250 |
| €600 | €250 | €300 | €250 |
| €800 | no aid | €300 | €250 |
| €1,000 | no aid | €300 | €250 |
The rent cap matters more than the amount
Going over the rent cap leaves you with no aid, not less aid. On a €650 rent, in a region that keeps the €600 limit the Bono disappears, while the youth aid still pays €300. In towns of 10,000 people or fewer, the youth aid lowers its own cap to €500. Check your region's page for the limits it has set.

What share of the rent you still pay
The aid is not taken off your rent bill: you pay the full rent to the landlord and the region pays the aid into your account, usually monthly or in grouped payments. On a €500 rent with the €300 youth aid, your real cost drops to €200. With the Bono, the same rent would cost you €250. That gap of €50 a month adds up to €1,200 over two years, before any Plan extension. Keep in mind that the aid is taxed in income tax as a capital gain, so part of it may go back to the Tax Agency in the following year's return.
For how long
The Bono lasts 24 months (article 12), with no extension. Both Plan aids last 24 months and the region may extend them by 24 if you still qualify, which can double what you receive. If your rent changes, the aid adjusts: upwards it never exceeds the amount granted. The page on when it is paid splits payments by year, and the tax page tells you what ends up in your tax return.
