Rent aid in the Basque Country in 2026
Independent, non-governmental site
The Basque Country does not apply the national Bono; the calculator says so, and below are the two Basque aids still open this year.
Your aid in Basque Country
No state aid
In Basque Country neither the Bono Alquiler Joven nor the State Plan applies (RD 42/2022 art. 2; RD 326/2026 art. 1.5): see the regional schemes in the table.

The Basque Country takes part in neither the Bono Alquiler Joven nor the 2026-2030 State Housing Plan, because its foral regime leaves it outside both royal decrees. Instead, the Basque government has two aids open in 2026 that can be claimed together. Gaztelagun, set for this year by an order published in BOPV no. 111 on 15 June, is for people aged 18 to 35: it pays 60% of the rent up to 300 euros a month, with rents up to 900 euros in Bilbao, Donostia-San Sebastián and Vitoria-Gasteiz, 800 in the main towns of each functional area and towns over 10,000 people, and 750 elsewhere. It takes applications until 31 December 2026 and its income band runs from 3,000 to 30,000 euros. Emantzipa, the emancipation benefit, pays 300 euros a month for up to 24 months to people aged 23 to 29 who have been on the padrón in the Basque Country for at least a year; its 2026 window ends on 30 November.
Why there is no Bono in the Basque Country
Royal Decree 42/2022 keeps the Bono Alquiler Joven for common-regime regions plus Ceuta and Melilla, and Royal Decree 326/2026 applies the same rule to the 2026-2030 Plan. The three Basque provinces fund their own housing policy, so the Ministry sends them no money under these schemes. What other regions call the Bono is called Gaztelagun here, run by the housing department together with Alokabide.
Gaztelagun 2026
The 2026 Gaztelagun order was published in BOPV no. 111 and took effect on 16 June, but it applies to applications made since 1 January. The budget is 7 million euros and the window runs until 31 December 2026. People aged 18 to 35 can apply with income of 3,000 to 30,000 euros if living alone, or up to 36,764 counting the family unit. It pays 60% of the rent up to 300 euros, and the rent cap depends on the town: 900 euros in the three capitals, 800 in the main district towns and towns over 10,000 people, 750 elsewhere.
At 60%, a 500 euro rent already reaches the maximum. The comparison with the national aid, which does not exist in the Basque Country, is only a reference point:
The highest aid for this rent
The highest aid for this rent
€300/month
| Bono Alquiler Joven | €250/month |
| 2026-2030 Plan youth aid | €300/month |
| 2026-2030 Plan general rent aid | €250/month |
Emantzipa, compatible with Gaztelagun
The Emantzipa benefit was called in the BOPV of 11 May 2026, with 88 million euros. It is for people aged 23 to 29 who have been on the Basque padrón for at least a year, pays 300 euros a month for up to 24 months and can be claimed from 12 May to 30 November 2026. It can be added to Gaztelagun. If you are that age and renting, the obvious move is to apply for both. Keep every rent payment going through the bank from the first month, because both aids check payments against your account.
